A Message from Steve Kelleher, Director of Golf
imgWhy the focus on pace of play?
While your time on Kiawah is usually a time of relaxation, there are still demands on your schedule (kayaking, turtle patrol, a massage at Sasanqua, a sunset cruise on the Club’s new boat come to mind). Being able to count on playing in an expected amount of time only makes it more enjoyable for you and your fellow Club Members.

What can players do to improve their pace of play?
Thankfully, improving one’s pace of play is easier than almost any golf shot you’ve ever attempted. Listed below are just a few of the many ways we can improve our pace of play.

1. “Tee it Forward” Golf is a game to be enjoyed, so play the course at a length that is enjoyable for you. If you are currently having issues reaching most holes in regulation then you should try moving up a set of tees. Many Club Members have already made the move and our getting more out of their rounds.

2. Be ready to play when it’s your turn and play ‘Ready Golf’ whenever possible. Plan ahead and start thinking about your next shot before you get to your ball. If your caddie is going to be on the other side of the hole assisting another player, grab three clubs that you think will work for your next shot. This will not only improve your pace but will set a great example for others in your group.

3. Stay up with the group ahead of you. As the USGA states in the Pace of Play Tips section of their website (www.usga.org), your correct position on the course is immediately behind the group in front of you, not immediately in front of the group behind you. Focusing forward will keep you on pace and not feeling rushed.
